Future of Television - Wireless Video Signal Service

Major companies such as Sony, Samsung and other consumer electronics heavyweights have united to support a technology that could send high definition video signals wirelessly from a single set top box to screens around the home.

Thinking LCD, HDTV, Plasmas are great? Hear this out. “Wireless Video Signal Service“. Meaning, if you have a TV in your home, that TV will be able to access any source in the home, whether it’s a settop box in the living room, or the Playstation in the bedroom, or a DVD player in another bedroom.

Sony and Samsung Electronics, along with Motorola, Sharp and Hitachi, will develop an industry standard around technology from Amimon Ltd. of Israel called WHDI, which stands for Wireless Home Digital Interface.

As of now, it is planned to be done through high speed versions of Wi-Fi, however an issue of quality degrading remains without ability to compress the data transmission.

Who knows what our future television technology will bring, but streaming video signal wirelessly? It’s just awesome.
